The Master of International Business comes at a much-needed juncture. A great deal of regional businesses is pursuing internationalization, to either leverage the advantages, or respond to threats brought about by globalization. Employees across all levels of the organization must possess the relevant knowledge, skills, and mind-set, to support the internationalisation process.

Internship

The UWI-ALJGSB enjoys longstanding and rich relationships with corporate entities across the region. Students of the Master of International Business are able to benefit from these relationships through the programme’s capstone project – an industry internship and opportunity to gain hands-on experience on firm internationalization

The programme leverages on a blended and authentic learning environment, where students are exposed to a combination of group work, case studies, online simulations, individual projects and exams.

Core Courses

In this module, students will gain an in depth understanding of the salient issues related to cross border trade and investment. Aside from analyzing advanced country environments, students will understand the unique challenges that arise from operating in countries with underdeveloped economic, social and institutional landscapes.

This course is designed to engage students in critical, creative and agile thinking about managing heterogeneous human behavior in global business organizations.

Students will be able to understand and discuss current events, debates and issues at regional and international levels.

Students will develop the ability to evaluate the current financial condition of an organisation and assess its future trends from the data contained in published financial statements.

In this course, students are introduced to models, tools, and methods that are commonly used in business analytics and insights. They will develop expertise in the use of popular tools and software for predictive analytics, and apply these methods to answer important questions, presenting data-driven solutions.

This course examines the major issues involved in entering regional and international markets and in conducting marketing operations on a global scale. It provides students with the tools and insight needed to develop and implement successful internationalization strategies.

This course provides a deconstruction of the evolution of supply chain strategies, business models, and technologies. Students gain insight and knowledge on current best practices in demand and supply management.

In this module, students will critically engage with this assumption and investigate the many contingency factors that influence the gains derived from trade and international business activity. Particular focus will be placed on trade and trade agreements that directly affect regional firms.

In this module, students will gain critical knowledge of the rationale and methodologies employed by MNEs when managing their multi-currency holdings generated from activities in the diverse global economic environment. Issues addressed within the module range from exchange rate risk, international portfolio investing, transfer pricing, and international project evaluation and financing.

Capstone Project

This project is based on an industry internship. The internship will pull the programme’s learnings together to provide an authentic experience. During this internship, students will be able to analyze the internationalization process of either: (1) indigenous firms with global operations (2) indigenous firms in the process of globalizing or (3) internships abroad in a multinational or agency with global engagement.

 

Spanish

This course is intended to provide the basis for immersion into the Spanish language as it relates to business and business relations. Students will be exposed to ample and up-to date training and vocabulary. Taught in a practical learning environment, students will acquire the necessary tools to interact with regional and international professionals in Spanish.
