Richard Trotman - Lok Jack GSB FacultyAlthough Richard now lives in South Oropouche, he was raised in Tunapuna and attended primary and secondary schools in Port of Spain (Richmond Street Boys’ AC, St. Mary’s College, and the Sixth Form Government School - ‘Poly’). Both of his parents were Primary School Teachers. Richard has worked in both the Public and Private sectors. After graduating from The University of the West Indies (UWI), Richard worked as an Auditor in the PublicService then as a Financial Analyst in Budgeting, Planning and Treasury at an ammonia and urea fertilizer production facility in Point Lisas.

He joined Republic Bank in 1990 where he played a key role in establishing The Bond Trading Division, a pioneering secondary market bond trading function that subsequently became Republic Securities Limited (RSL). During his time at RSL he also managed the Republic Bank’s Treasury and Money Market functions.

In 1995 he was transferred to Republic Bank’s merchant banking subsidiary, FINCOR, and successfully took up the challenge to establish FINCOR’s Eastern Caribbean Office in Grenada. In January 1998 he returned to FINCOR’s Trinidad Office where he was deputy to the Managing Director and had responsibility for the Treasury, Structured Finance, Accounting, and Regional Merchant Banking functions.

In August 2000 Richard joined the CL Financial Group where his work involved Corporate Finance, Investments, Divestments, Corporate Restructuring, Mergers and Acquisitions, and Project Evaluation & Financing. In February 2007 he was made a Director of Clico Investment Bank Limited (CIB) and appointed as its President and Chief Executive Officer having previously been Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer from February 2005.

He resigned from CIB on 9thJanuary 2009 and took up a full time consultancy role with The 3F Consultancy Limited. During his time at CIB Richard was very concerned about the linkage of strategic plans to day-to-day activity and performance measurement. He therefore implemented the Balanced Scorecard to engender a more strategy focused organization. He is a past director of Jamaica Money Market Brokers Limited (JMMB) and Caribbean Money Market Brokers Limited (CMMB). He currently sits on the board of Flavorite Foods Limited.

Richard holds both B.Sc. and M.Sc. Degrees in Accounting from the UWI and has served as an academic tutor in Accounting and Financial Management at that institution. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Trinidad and Tobago. In July 2003, he completed the Advanced Management Program at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. In May 2007, he completed the LL.M. Degree in Corporate and Commercial Law at UWI.

In his present role, Richard can be described as a knowledge worker with interests in teaching, training, consulting, export agriculture, and SME &CSME research. He has presented papers on Finance, Planning, Investments, and the Money & Capital Markets at seminars and conferences in several Caribbean states. He also is a Course Lecturer in Finance, Accounting and Entrepreneurship at the UWI Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business.

Richard is actively involved in his church fellowship, Christian Brethren, and in the local community. He is a tennis enthusiast and is married to Lois. They have four children.
