Ian Boxill holds the Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Sociology, the Master of Philosophy degree in Social Sciences and Doctor of Philosophy degree in Sociology.
He joined the staff of the UWI, Mona, Jamaica in 1992, and in 2006 was promoted to Full Professor in Comparative Sociology. He has been visiting scholar at several universities in North America, the Pacific region and Latin America. He served as Head of Department from 2003-2007. He has also written and published extensively on topics related to Caribbean economic and political integration, Asian-Pacific societies, Jamaican social structure, race and ethnic relations, economics, business and culture in the Caribbean, Latin America and the Pacific. Professor Boxill has worked with bodies such as the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC), DFID, CARICOM, WWF, UNESCO, and UNCTAD, The World Bank and many other UN and Caribbean organizations. He is the founder and Editor of the IDEAZ journal and serves as Associate Editor (Anglophone Caribbean) for the journal Revista Mexicana del Caribe, Mexico.
