Personal Wealth Management

Overview 

This 2-day workshop aims to foster and strengthen the understanding and competence in personal financial planning and money management for Professionals ultimately improving their ability to achieve family, educational and career goals. It will also empower participants with critical knowledge and skills in the areas of proactive personal budgeting, savings techniques, making and assessing investments and managing personal debts.

Target Audience

If you are entrusted with the responsibility in this field for any industry or if an understanding of Forensic Accounting would be beneficial to your core responsibilities you should attend this programme.

Programme Outline

Topics to be covered over the two days include:

MODULE A: Personal Budgeting

This module is intended to provide a framework for the understanding and application of budgeting principles for individuals. This module will endeavour to take participants to a core comfort level with personal budgeting tools and basic accounting techniques for use by individuals.

  • Introduction to the Individual as a financial entity: ("You mean I am like a business?")
  • Introduction to the concept of Personal Financial Statements: ("I can see my financial worth?")
  • Benefits of Personal Budgeting: ("Why must I find time for that?)
  • Personal Budgeting Tools and Techniques: ("How do I do that?)

MODULE B: Savings Techniques

This module builds on Module A. It focuses the participants on the savings element of Personal Budgeting, leveraging known successful practices to develop the confidence and disciplined behaviours needed to truly accumulate wealth.

  • What is meant by "Savings vs. Investment"?
  • Savings Techniques: Real Life Best Practices
  • Savings Behaviours: Why People Fail to Save?

MODULE C: Making and Assessing Investments

This module introduces the participant to the nature of the Individual Investor, the investment classes that are best suited to achievement of their financial goals and the "life-cycle" concept of individual wealth creation. This module will then focus on the decision making process for selection and review of investments. This will be complemented by a basic introduction to financial markets (as they influence the behaviours of individual investors) and the tools used to navigate these markets while investing.

  • Understanding the concept of the "Individual Investor"
  • Introduction to the Life-cycle concept for Individual Investors
  • Introduction to Financial Markets (understanding the financial environment)
  • Basic Financial Instrument Analysis (critical knowledge that participants must have to navigate within the current financial markets)

MODULE D: Managing Personal Debt

This module addresses the challenging realities of the "necessary evil" known as personal debts. Building on previously introduced concepts, we incorporate "pro-active debt management" into the personal financial planning equation and explore new applications for the use of debt to enhance investment returns and personal wealth creation.

  • Becoming "Debt Savvy": pro-active vs. re-active debt management
  • "Debt Conversion" – personal debt as a tool to improve personal finances

Certification

Certificates will only be issued to participants who have attained a minimum attendance rate of 75% for the duration of the course.

Course Cancellation/ Reschedule Policy

Arthur Lok Jack GSB (ALJGSB) reserves the right to cancel training at any time. If ALJGSB cancels the training due to unforeseen circumstances beyond the control of ALJGSB, you are entitled to a full refund of the course fee, or your course fee can be credited toward a future training, based upon availability (providing payments have been made before original advertised date).

ALJGSB reserves the right to reschedule training at any time. If ALJGSB reschedules training due to unforeseen circumstances beyond the control of ALJGSB, the training will take place at the next available time. Participants will be informed via phone and/or e-mails.
