Participants Graduate from Mayaro Community Leadership Development Programme

PARTICIPANTS of the Repsol YPF sponsored Community Leadership Development Programme (CLDP), designed and facilitated by the Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business, received their certificates at the recently held graduation ceremony at the Yara Auditorium, Lok Jack GSB Campus, Mt. Hope.

The 13-week CLDP targeted community leaders throughout the Mayaro/Guayaguayare area. The Programme seeks to equip persons involved in community work with Project Management Training and Leadership skills so that they can drive sustainable development initiatives in their communities.

A requirement for the awarding of the Certificate was the development of a community based project by participants. They were divided into four groups and presented their projects to a panel of evaluators which included Hasley Crawford, Head of Community Relations, National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited; Mario Singh, Community Relations Advisor, BG Trinidad and Tobago Limited; and Pedro Riberio, TSP Asset Manager, Repsol YPF.

In her feature address, Minister of Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs, the Honourable Joan Yullie Williams, quoted known anthropologist Margaret Mead who said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the World. Indeed, it is the only things that ever have.”

The Minister explained such groups brought their insight and their hopes; their skills and their power; their passion and their sense of purpose to the initiatives undertaken.

She expressed her heartfelt thanks to Arthur Lok Jack GSB and Repsol YPF for their vision adding, “The commitment and contribution of key business partners reflect their role in the process of community leadership development.”

The Minister told the graduates they must demonstrate Community Leadership with a sense of history, learning from the past but with an eye on the future.
“ As you go about the business of building and leading your communities, note the power of the team and remember that we are all nation-builders and each individual action weaves a strand into the fabric of this place we call Trinidad and Tobago. Weave carefully and thoughtfully,” she said.

The Minister presented an award to the winning team - ‘The Initiators’ - whose project, ‘Crop Alert’, focused on the design and set up of a tractor pool for residents of Union Food Crop.

Time Management Solutions
October 24th - 25th

Overview
An interesting paradox of our times is that the more our organizations introduce technology to simplify work processes, the less time employees seem to have for themselves. Yet, in today’s fast -paced, customer-driven business environment, time is the one commodity that can spell the difference between success and failure. Missed deadlines frequently translate to missed opportunities or the creation of irate customers who are not averse to exercising their opt ions to seek service elsewhere.
