The following is a list of the programmes being offered in November 2005.

FAMILY BUSINESS MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME

This is a 2-day programme for family business owners and employees that will bring participants into contact with experts and practitioners drawn from the field of Family Business Management. The interactive presentations will cover 4 essential themes: Communication, Succession Planning, Conflict Resolution and Financial Structures. Seminar materials will be drawn from actual family business case histories in the U.S. and the West Indies.

CONFLICT RESOLUTION AND NEGOTIATION SKILLS NOV 9TH – 10TH

Two of the most critical skills managers and executives need for their personal and professional success are their ability to manage conflicts and to negotiate. This Lok Jack GSB programme provides a solid foundation for improving one’s conflict management and negotiating skills.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY – NOV 12TH, 19TH, 26TH

The workshop addresses methods of behavioural research focusing on the different stages that are essential in the process of obtaining results for decision-making purposes. In particular, these methods and related tools are examined in the context of research problems and questions that arise in various fields akin to the social sciences.

INTERVIEWING SKILLS NOV 21ST - 23RD

Recruiting and selecting the right employees have always been a challenge for managers. Recruiting people who are wrong for the organisation can lead to increase labour turnover, resulting in increased costs for the organisation, and lowering of morale in the existing workforce.

ADMINISTRATION PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT NOVEMBER 16TH-17TH

This programme is designed to enable the Clerical Officers, Secretarial Staff and Administrative Professionals to broaden their outlook and develop their skills to become more effective in their roles. At the end of this programme, participants will be able to strengthen their department in its response to the ever-changing environment.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT ESSENTIALS DEC 5TH, 6TH, 7TH

The foundation of what you need to know to manage projects in today's business environment is presented in this three-day course. PM Essentials provides a broad overview of the concepts and practices used in managing projects effectively in today's business environment. It covers the basic concepts of five essential project management processes, defining requirements, schedules, risk management, and change control.

MS PROJECT – NOV. 17TH-18TH & DEC 5TH –6TH

Microsoft Project is a powerful project management tool you can use to help build project plans, track work completed, and account for variance from your baseline plan. The best project management tool in the world can never replace your good judgment, however tools can help you accomplish desired outcomes.

PROJECT COST AND SCHEDULING NOV 14TH – 16TH

The triple constraints of project management (scope, time and cost) are the focus of this intensive, three-day course. Mastering the art of planning is a key to mastering these constraints. Using complex case studies, hands-on exercises and problem analysis, this course leads you in preparing the most important elements of the project plan-the project work breakdown structure (WBS), Gantt chart and critical path network, bottom-up project budget, resource responsibility matrix.

FOUNDATIONS IN PROJECT MANAGEMENT NOV. 5TH, 12TH, 19TH, 26TH, & DEC 3 (SAT. CLASSES)

This 40 hour programme is designed to give you a deeper understanding of the complexities of planning and managing projects. You will be encouraged in learning practical techniques that would ensure your projects are completed on time, within budget and scope.

EVENT MARKETING NOV 2ND, 7TH, 9TH, 14TH, 16TH, 21ST, 23RD, 28TH

This course examines how to use events to promote products, services and causes, and how to promote events themselves.

EXHIBITION/TRADE SHOW PLANNING, MANAGEMENT AND MARKETING Nov 11th – 12th

This course helps you understand the growing role of expositions and trade shows in the marketing and sales process, both in Trinidad and Tobago and internationally. It provides practical information for designing and managing projects from a trade show exhibit to planning and co-ordinating an entire exposition.

KEY STEPS TO IMPROVING SALES & SERVICE PERFORMANCE FOR FINCANCIAL INSTIUTIONS NOV. 11th, 2005

Offered in collaboration with Graduate School of Banking, this programme will provide true-life examples of success stories where great customer service and/or sales efforts provided added benefit to the customer and produced significant results for the bank. These results were generated through a combination of ongoing efforts to select, train, measure, recognize and reinforce key behaviors that are necessary to achieve consistently superior results. The purpose of the day will be to help you identify, establish and create a positive environment of accountability - wherein these behaviors (and the results that follow) happen every day, with every customer, every time.

GRADUATION

Our annual graduation ceremony took place at the Arthur Lok Jack – GSB on October 14th 2005. This year’s function took the form of an Award Ceremony and Cocktail Reception, for graduates from the following programmes:

  • Post Graduate Diploma in MIS
  • Post Graduate Diploma in HRM
  • Master of Marketing
  • International MBA
  • Executive MBA.

PROGRAMME LAUNCH

Formal Launch of the Master of Human Resource Management in Tobago for April 2006 underway.

Spanish for Business Purposes successfully launched and currently in progress for the Executive Master of Business Administration -cohorts 16 and 17.

Applications are being processed for a January 2006 intake for both the International MBA and Master of HRM.
