MBA Students Return From China Study Tour
The MBA students comprise managers and executives from a wide cross section of corporate Trinidad who are charged with increasing the relevance and responsiveness of their companies to the changing business environment. They have returned from China with a more global perspective and understanding of the unique cultural, economic and political forces at work in one of the world’s fastest growing economies.
“Our tour to China was a most enlightening one,” stated International MBA student, Navneet Boodhai. “It showed us what a country can achieve with a competent human resource and a vision in a very short space of time. The experiences gained from visits to the many multinational businesses and Universities made a vast difference in bringing the MBA programme to life.”
The Study tour was organised along business, academic and cultural dimensions. Students were treated to city tours that took them to historical landmarks like Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, The Temple of Heaven and the Great Wall of China.
For a close up look at Chinese business, they visited several well established companies including Teleste China (a high technology company from Finland), Beijing Hyundai Auto, Yanjing Brewery Company Ltd, China CDT Group (the top power supplier) and Azalea Networks.
They also participated in four lectures at the Beijing International Centre which included sessions on:
- Real Estate in China and Opportunities for Foreign Investors – by Li Jing, Senior Real Estate Developer;
- Textile Export, Quota, and Policies – by Ma Ying of China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textiles;
- Investment and the Economy of China – by Mr. Yang Kai, CEO, Morgan Stanley China
This was complemented by participation in MBA class lectures at Beijing University and the China Central University of Finance and Economics.
The China study tour follows from trips to Barbados and Venezuela earlier this year and is embedded in the Lok Jack GSB’s pledge of delivering an enhanced student experience. Additional trips to the Far East and other international destinations are planned.
